when: July 17th, 2024

Summary:

AIER and WaCharters teamed up to put on a conference on school innovation for local educators and programs. We had about 60 folks in attendance. The conference featured eight (8) workshops, an inspiring keynote address, and a spectacular lunch.

Conference Goals:

  • Hold creative conversations about school design and re-thinking, with a network of innovative practitioners

  • Share resources for strengthening the connection between student learning and their family and local community

  • View student work and listen to student voice

  • Discuss problems of practice with other innovative practitioners

  • Experience hands-on workshops that model and inspire innovative teaching practices (i.e. project-based learning, alternative/mastery-based assessment, methods for strengthening school culture

A wide variety of workshops were offered, including:

  • Investing in school Culture and Climate with Eric Jurasin

  • PBL design and implementation with Seth Robertson

  • Exhibition and Graduation  - the TCS Model – with Dr. Cindy McMahon

  • Pedagogy and Student Voice with Kelly Niccolls EdD. and a student panel

By all accounts the conference was a big success – thanks for all who came and participated – and a special thanks to all those who presented wonderful workshops.
